Gravel Resources and Assessment

In May 2007, the University completed a competitive RFP process and hired aggregate consultant Jess Resources, Inc., to prepare a gravel assessment plan.

A geological assessment to confirm the location, quantity and quality of gravel resources on the property commenced in the fall of 2007. ProSource Technologies Inc. was selected through a competitive RFP process to conduct the assessment. The assessment is scheduled to be completed in late spring or early summer of 2008.

Based on assessment data to date, the University is seeking proposals for the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) through a competitive RFP process. The RFP is tentatively scheduled to be posted on April 7, 2008 and can be viewed at the University’s Capital Planning & Project Management Web site.

An EIS could be completed in approximately 18 months, and the University would then determine whether it will mine gravel from portions of the 5,000-acre property.

Following extraction, mining sites could be transformed into amenities such as lakes and ponds that would enhance green space as the new community is developed.
