The University of Minnesota's distinctive vision to create a community at UMore Park integrates research, education and public engagement into the planning and development of the community and region over time. Outcomes of this effort support the University's goal of becoming among the top public research institutions in the world. The UMore Park Academic Mission Advisory Board ensures that University research, teaching and learning, and outreach are seamlessly integrated into planning and development in ways that add value to the property and enrich the community.

Formed in the fall of 2008, the Academic Mission Advisory Board supports the integration of the University's academic mission into planning and development efforts. Academic initiatives undertaken by the board have created new opportunities for faculty, students and staff that enhance research, learning and outreach. Setting the stage: University task forces
In May 2007, six task forces considered how the University's academic mission could add value to the future community at UMore Park through the interrelated topics of education, energy, the environment, health, transportation, and interdisciplinary opportunities. A publication titled Distinctiveness through Academic Mission: The Vision for a University-Founded Community at the University of Minnesota Outreach, Research and Education Park includes reports from each of the task forces and comments from the related public and campus forums. Recommendations from the University task forces informed the concept master planning process for UMore Park.
A team of four graduate students from the University of Minnesota’s Humphrey School of Public Affairs who completed a capstone project on Sustainable Development for UMore Park and the City of Rosemount have been selected as the winner of the Minnesota Chapter of the American Planning Association "2012 Outstanding Student Project Award". The award recognizes superior work from students in planning programs in Minnesota.
